There’s
no getting past it. Planningtorock sounds all but identical to The
Knife. So much so that Doorway
might have slotted into Silent
Shout or Fever Ray without
anyone batting an eye. Listen for instance to that ambient drone.
Like much of Silent Shout
it sounds like it’s been taken from an industrial processing plant
on another planet. Take the lyrics too. I
know my feelings singer Janine
Rostron tells us, bellowing like she’s in fact a demon. Much like
Andersson telling us about her dishwasher tablets on Seven.
Of course the odd thing about all this is that I don’t mind at all.
I don’t think there’s enough Knife in existence and,
though Planningtorock might be derivative, I’m glad to have
stumbled on someone that apes their sound so well. No props for being
original then but, fuck it, Doorway
still sounds good.
